Residents of the 39th Ward should be able to feel safe in their own community. I will work to bring more public safety resources to the Ward and I will work with the Chicago Police Department to ensure we have a large enough police presence in our neighborhoods. I will partner with the police, fire and first responder community to ensure that they have the necessary resources to do their job.
As the former Chief of Staff at the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, I understand the importance of strong relationships between our first responders and members of the community.
Every child deserves the opportunity to receive an education in a safe and nurturing environment. As Alderman, I will work tirelessly to ensure that students in the 39th Ward receive the necessary resources to thrive socially and academically at school.
Teachers need to be included in the conversation surrounding what is in the best interest of the children they are teaching. In addition to providing children with a rigorous curriculum we must also ensure that proper social structures are implemented. Children should focus on their learning and development, not bullies, lockdowns, or hunger pains. I will work with our partners in academia to support an environment that allows our children to learn and thrive.
The 39th Ward should be proud of the diverse shops, restaurants, and businesses that make up our vibrant community. As Alderman, I will create a Zoning Task Force comprised of members from the business, civic and non-profit sectors to make sure that we are developing the 39th Ward in a way that encourages sustainable growth.
